Threadfin Bream is a demersal fish (often known as a bottom dweller - it seeks its food on the sea bed). It is ideal for use in Surimi due to its sweet, delicate flavour and pure white flesh.

Threadfin bream are a family known as Nemipteridae. They are also known around the world as whiptail breams and false snappers. There are around 60 species of Threadfin Bream in total, each of which have slightly differing flavour and visual characteristics. They are found in tropical waters of the Indian Ocean and western Pacific Oceans.

Most species of Threadfin Bream are carniverous, eating small fishes and crustaceans; however, a few species eat microscopic plankton.
