Young’s in Scotland
Our business has a long history in Scotland and many of our products are made with Scottish caught seafood - including haddock, herring and mackerel. Our Group is also the UK’s biggest buyer of Scottish farmed salmon and has specialist chilled fish and fish smoking facilities in both Edinburgh and Fraserburgh.
Langoustine is a key species in Scotland and the key ingredient of Young's delicious traditional breaded scampi. There are Young’s processing facilities in both Annan and Stornoway, both handling the langoustine we source from the West Coast.
We have also worked extensively with the Scottish langoustine industry on research to improve sustainability and quality, and buy a large proportion of the Scottish catch.
In Stornoway in the Western Isles Young’s has worked closely with local fishermen and invested over £1m in research and traceability technology to date for the fishery so far. This also resulted in the fishery being certified in April 2009 as sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) – the only langoustine fishery so far to achieve this.
