Young's in Scotland |
 |
Our business has a long history in Scotland and many of our products are made with Scottish caught seafood including haddock, herring and mackerel. We are also the UK’s biggest buyer of Scottish farmed salmon. Langoustine is a key species in Scotland and the key ingredient of our delicious traditional breaded scampi. We buy a large proportion of Scotland's langoustine and have worked extensively with the fishery to improve sustainable practice.
This has included sponsoring langoustine research by Glasgow University in the Clyde, and also the development of groundbreaking traceability technology with the Stornoway langoustine fleet. This ‘Young’s Trace’ system has been widely recognised both for its economic and fisheries management benefits. We have also sponsored the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification process for Isle of Lewis langoustine, confirmation of which is expected in October 2008.
Our company works closely with producers and trade associations alike in the drive for quality and best practice in Scottish seafood. Scotland’s wealth of fishing heritage and tradition, seafood skills and quality produce mean it will continue to have a key role to play in our drive to make seafood more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
