Young's is supporting its home region on the global stage – as a Race Partner to the vessel, ‘Hull & Humber,’ which is participating in the 35,000 mile Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race.
The Hull & Humber Clipper project is led by Yorkshire Forward, and Young’s is one of four major regional sponsors. There are ten boats in the race in total, each of which is sponsored by different global cities and regions (the others representing Liverpool, Glasgow, New York, Durban, Western Australia, Singapore, Qingdao, Jamaica and Nova Scotia).
As well as supporting the boat overall, Young’s has sponsored two of the crew members, Lincolnshire lass, Rachel Axcell, and Sam Willis from Hull - to help them achieve their goals of completing all seven legs of the race.
Marketing director, Yvonne Adam, says, "Rachel and Sam are super ambassadors for our region and we are delighted to lend them our support. The Hull & Humber yacht will visit many of the countries where we buy fish and we think it makes a nice fit with our work to bring seafood from around the world to the UK market 'via Grimsby'".
Rachel Axcell’s participation in the project forms part of her drive to become a professional yachtswoman and achieve a foundation degree in Ocean Yachting. She also hopes to be able to raise funds through the trip for the Ellen MacArthur Trust for children with serious illnesses.
The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race started in Albert Dock, Liverpool, in September. There are port stopovers in France, Brazil, South Africa, Australia, Singapore, China, Hawaii and the east and west coasts of the USA before the race returns to the UK in July 2008.
